Mentorship in Motion

To build lifelong bridges between young people of color and mentors who embody the values, resilience, and creativity they aspire to have. The program fosters guidance, emotional growth, and real-world preparation — empowering youth to both receive and later become the guidance they once needed.

Mentorship in Motion is designed to provide mentorship opportunities for youth ages 7–22, ensuring that every participant — regardless of age or background — has access to guidance and encouragement. The program pairs participants with trusted mentors who represent a range of lived experiences, including professionals, community leaders, creatives, and eventually alumni of the program.

While mentorship is ongoing by nature, each participant receives a structured match for consistent support. Mentors help youth navigate emotional healing, life challenges, and personal development outside of therapy. As youth grow and demonstrate readiness, they are given opportunities to become peer mentors — continuing the cycle of empowerment within Standing in Parallel.

Sessions primarily begin one-on-one to build trust and depth, with group mentorship introduced as mentors, prepared to facilitate larger discussions. The program operates flexibly across schools, community spaces, and virtual platforms, ensuring access is never limited by circumstance.

All mentors are carefully screened, interviewed, and trained before joining the program. This process emphasizes emotional awareness, cultural sensitivity, and professional accountability to ensure a safe and trustworthy environment for every youth participant.

As Standing in Parallel continues to grow, the organization will develop a comprehensive and ethical screening model that ensures youth safety while maintaining clear structure for mentor training, supervision, and accountability.
